 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Is Yosemite National Park open year round?

Yes, Yosemite National Park is open year round and has four beautiful seasons.

How far in advance should we make our reservations?

We receive high volumes of reservation requests daily for our two units for peak season dates and unfortunately we are unable to accommodate everyone; quite often we have to turn away many potential guests from early April through October because we are booked. We do our very best to keep our calendar on our website updated daily but best to call us to confirm availability. We strongly advise that you do not wait until the last minute to make your reservations. It's best to try to make your reservations at least five to six months in advance to assure availability during our peak seasons and consider visiting us during our off season period (November, January and March). Yosemite is beautiful in all seasons.

Is there a fee to enter Yosemite National Park?

Yes, a $30.00 fee is collected by the Park Rangers at the entrance gates, which is valid for seven days. Winter months = the reduced fee is $25 (November to March ).

Is there public transportation or a shuttle bus service to Yosemite West?

No. Due to our remote location there is no public transportation or shuttle bus services to or from Yosemite West. You must have your own transportation.

Location and how far are you from the main attractions?

This is the best location in the Park! We are centrally located in Yosemite National Park in the neighborhood called "Yosemite West", 12 miles south of the Yosemite Valley floor, across from the Glacier Point and Badger Pass exit off highway #41 and south of us is Wawona. Driving time is approximately 10 minutes to Badger Pass Ski Area, 25-30 minutes to the Yosemite Valley floor, 25-30 minutes to Glacier Point, 25-30 minutes to Wawona, and 35 minutes to the Giant Redwood trees (Mariposa Grove) which is closed unitl fall of 2017 for restoration.

QUIET HOURS house rule (10pm to 7am) ... (not a party house!)

This property is a duplex with both units being vacation rentals. The 2 units are completely independent but in close proximity, hence our house rule: curfew is *quiet by 10pm* -- strongly enforced and compliance is mandatory.

 What do you provide?

We provide you with dishware, cookware, silverware, blankets, pillows, linens and towels. Basic condiments are provided : salt & pepper, oil & vinegar plus hot chocolate, Folgers ground coffee and filters, sugar, Lipton black tea.
We also provide dishwasher detergent, hand soap, toilet paper, paper towels, napkins. Both units come equipped with propane BBQ's, and we provide the propane.

Is your water safe to drink?

Our water is perfectly safe to drink and bath, but we recommend that you bring bottled water for drinking, due to the fact that our water has a high mineral content and personal tastes can vary.

Do cell phones work in Yosemite?

No, there is hardly any cell phone reception in the park; one exception is the Yosemite Valley area.

Do you have internet access and cell reception at your property?

No. Due to our remote location (satellite service would be our only possibility) and being surrounded on all sides by the native forest with very tall trees, we don't have reliable cell phone reception, internet or cable/satelite TV (satellite service requires a clear line to the satellites' path in the sky but our tall trees are obstructing that line). Verizon service is sometimes OK but best not to count on it.

Are wedding parties or other groups allowed at this property?

We don't allow wedding parties, events, mountain climbers teams, video/movie teams, college age groups of friends. This duplex property is family oriented and has a low occupancy limit.

 Trip Insurance?

If you have any doubt that you may not be able to make your trip for any reason, we strongly urge that you purchase trip insurance from Allianz Travel Insurance or other similar insurance. For a minimal cost you can insure your entire trip for a full refund if anything should happen. Check the details of coverage as the products being sold vary a bit.

Are there any restaurants or grocery stores in Yosemite West?

There are NO food services in Yosemite West, we suggest you do your shopping before you enter the Park. You can shop in our neighboring towns of Oakhurst, Mariposa, Groveland, and Lee Vining, before you enter the gates of Yosemite National Park. Our closest restaurants and small market are located in Yosemite Valley and Wawona which are both about a 25-30 minute drive.

 Where's the nearest gas station?

The closest gas station to Yosemite West is located in Wawona (12 miles), which is South of us on Highway #41. We suggest you enter the park with a full tank of gas.

Do you have Air Conditioning in your rentals?

There is no standard Air Conditioning system in the Sunset House unit, the unit has an environmentally friendly water cooler system (evaporative cooler) that keeps the house comfortable during the few hot weeks that we experience during the summer. The Red Door apt. has one window A/C unit installed only during July and August. Both units have ceiling fans. Due to our 5800 feet elevation the weather here is cooler than in the Yosemite Valley, most of the year.

 How about heating?

Both units have powerful forced-air heating.

 Do your units have phones?

Yes, a land line is available for our guests for local use and emergency calls. Both rentals have an extension of the same telephone number - please bring your own calling card for long distance calls.

  Do you provide daily housekeeping?

Housekeeping is not provided daily -- only prior to check-in. If you need additional housekeeping services, please let us know ahead of your visit. There will be an additional charge if you should need this service.

Who do I call for assistance during my stay?

Our local housekeeping and maintenance crew contact numbers are posted in your unit. Guests may also call owners during business hours.

 Are there laundry facilities?

Our laundry appliances are for exclusive use by our housekeeping crew. As a special courtesy to our guests who stay at least 4 nights we offer the option of one load of wash free of charge (saving water and energy in this ecologically sensitive area is not only responsible but imperative during California's drought).

What time is check-in and check-out? What if I arrive late? Can I arrive early?

Check-in is anytime after 5 p.m. in summer - April through October (4pm during winter months) and check-out is anytime before 11 am. Your unit is not ready for occupancy before 5pm. Leaving after 11am is not an option during most of the year; when possible, it can be purchased ahead of time for a fee. Arriving after 9pm is not appreciated as this would create noise disturbance to your immediate neighbors trying to sleep.

Where is the nearest grocery store?

In Yosemite Valley at the Village Market (15 miles) or in Wawona (12 miles). Coming in from Hwy 120 at "Oakdale". Coming in from Hwy 41 at "Oakhurst". Coming in from Hwy 140 at "Mariposa".

Please contact us with any questions you may have that aren't answered here.
